If you have a good hammock, you do not need a bed.

Hammocks are used instead of beds. I spent a couple winters on Isla. The very best sleep I have had in my life was in a hammock.
When you use a hammock, you sleep at a 45 degree angle. That makes the hammmock flat instead of looking like a "U". It wasn't long before I was rolling over and repositioning during the night without even waking - just like a bed only better IMHO.
When the garbage truck would wake me at 6 a.m., I would reach out, give the hammock a little push and be rocked back to sleep in a less than a minute.
It was not that long ago that there were no rooms on Isla without hammock hooks.
The first maids we had at Cabanas Maria del Mar had not seen a bed before they started working there. They would bring their infants with them, tie the hammock on the patio up and put the little ones in there to sleep while they worked. My Godchild's family were so proud to show us the first bed they bought.
Most of the local houses were small - one or two rooms for the adults and children. The hammocks are put down for night and tied up during the day to give more room.
We are seriously considering putting a couple in the second bedroom at home. No insomnia sleeping in a hammock (after you get used to it). As they say, I slept like a baby. |
